Opportunity description

The ESCWA Foundation announces the first Arab Consumer Protection Forum, which comes within the framework of its endeavor to strengthen consumer protection frameworks and policies in the Arab region, in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain.

Benefits

  • The Forum constitutes an annual platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices on consumer protection policy and its enforcement among Arab stakeholders. Its objectives are as follows:
    • Increase economic growth and improve governance in the Arab region, in line with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals.
    • Increasing cooperation and coordination between consumer protection authorities in ESCWA member states.
    • Supporting the process of developing and enforcing consumer protection policies in the Arab region, guided by international best practices.
    • Reaching practical recommendations regarding activities aimed at developing and enforcing consumer protection policies in the Arab region.
  • The First Arab Consumer Protection Forum will address topics such as consumer protection policies for sustainability, strengthening legal frameworks for consumer protection, empowering consumers, and protecting consumers in the context of e-commerce and digital markets.
