United Nations Volunteers invites international candidates to a volunteer opportunity in the Central African Republic which be held on 01/04/2023 for three months. This volunteering requires you to have integrity and professionalism, as well as, the ability to manage information objectively, accurately, and confidentially. The assignment is renewable on an annual basis (1 July - 30 June) up to a maximum of 4 years. Contract renewals are granted based on Mission mandate, availability of budget, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance. Duty station can change in the course of an assignment based on operational necessity; you may be required to work and travel anywhere in the area of operations of the host organization, including in remote locations.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for managing mission operations as follows:
- Working closely with transport HQ workshop and regional transport/field offices in collaboration with the IWH Bangui, on warehouse issues.
- Monitoring and correcting superseded part numbers from various vehicle manufactures.
- Identify transport spare parts discrepancies, including obsolete spare parts, and recommend for write-off.
- Check and make sure spare parts descriptions are labeled with the correct technical name in accordance with the manufacturers in the Umoja system.
- Monitor the overall performance of the fleet maintenance and servicing and ensure work orders are opened and closed in UMOJA in a timely manner.
- Supervises and coordinates transport administrative requirements including, opening and closing of work orders; fleet distribution (sector office).
- Role of attendance monitor and other clerical work under the supervision of the Transport Officer/supervisor.
- Acts as the focal point for transport matters and is required to respond and provide clients with assistance in transport matters.
- Ability to perform vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with the United Nations standard of operations and manufacturers' standards/recommendations.
- Technical Knowledge of relevant safety procedures when repairing and fitting replacement parts and lubricants on vehicles, in the workshop environment.
- Perform any other duties.
Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- Technical/vocational diploma in the area(s) of specialization: Transport or material management; Light Heavy Vehicles Mechanic; Logistics.
- 4 years of demonstrated expertise in the area of specialty and ability to apply good judgment.
- You must be aged 27 - 80.
- Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment (Bangui, Central African Republic).
- Effective organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor work.
- Ability to work under pressure, and handle multiple concurrent projects/activities.
- Teamwork and respect for diversity.
- Fluent in English.
- French, level of working knowledge.
- Good spoken and written communication skills.
- The program duration is 3 months (with the possibility of extension).
- Expected start date: 01/04/2023.
