Tree House Park Design Competition with $8,000 prize from the GAD Foundation

The Tree House Park Design Competition is now available for designers all over the world. The competition is organized by GAD Foundation in partnership with Ege Yapi and Casper Computer. The partners are stakeholders in sites neighbouring the competition site and are invested into improving the surrounding areas for the benefit of the public at large with the cooperation of local government and agencies.

About the Competition:-

• The Tree House Park Competition calls on young architects to envision tree houses in daily urban life as a new typology bringing man and nature closer together. The Istanbul based GAD Foundation, the organiser of the competition, offers a total of $15000 in award prizes and $8000 to the winning design and the opportunity to build the proposal. The design project selected 2nd will be awarded $4000 and 3rd will be awarded $2000.
• The competition will be organized in two phases and is open to all young architects 30 years of age and under who seek to explore the ecological possibilities of architecture for the 21st century. Competition registration is free. The 1st phase will require entrants to submit a “Statement of Intent” of 500 words and a portfolio of relevant work due on March 15, 2021. The 2nd phase will start on April 1, 2021 with the publication of the 10 finalists chosen from the first phase.
• The competition is set in a 19.250 m2 site in Istanbul, Turkey, in a forested area in the district of Cekmekoy, a low density residential zone on the Asian side of the city.

Competition Theme:-

• The main theme of the competition is based on the idea of a “Tree House Park” that will host a number of tree houses and activities set inside a forested area. 
• The forest area will be organized as a park with outdoor activities such as a walking path and zones for physical activity to stimulate exploration and discovery. The tree houses and primary park activities are envisioned to be in and on a network of walking paths and spaces. 
• The design strategy of the competition will be to retain the natural materials and character of the forested area as a nature reserve. 
• The competition calls for a non-invasive approach to the design of the park where ecosystems are supported and new construction minimized.

About GAD Foundation:-

It is a foundation that aims to cultivate architecture, construction, engineering and installation cultures and raise awareness about them. Since 2013, Gokhan Avcioglu & GAD Foundation has brought professionals and students together from all around the world to discuss and plan on issues related to architecture, design, society, education, culture and environment. GAD Foundation team organizes workshops, arrange internships, curate exhibitions, create student exchange programs, write and publish books, engage architectural figures with students and society.

• Competitors can register as a group. During registration there should be ONE consolidated portfolio and ONE statement of intent. The contents of the portfolio should exhibit the designs of the group.
• Projects in the portfolio should represent the creative efforts of the submitting individuals/groups with special attention being paid to ecological architecture/design and designs that integrate technology and nature in innovative ways.
• Registration for the competition is free.
• The competition is open to architects, designers, planners and ecologists 30 years of age and under regardless of working or education status.
• This is a 2 Phase invited competition. Registration for the competition’s First Phase is an open call for all architects, designers, planners and ecologists 30 years of and under. From these registered entrants, 10 finalists will be invited to submit design proposals for the Second Phase. The Main Jury will select the winning designs from the 10 invited proposals.
