Opportunity description
UN Volunteer offers a volunteer opportunityin Switzerland for 6 months which is expected to start on 01.07.2023 until 31.12.2023 with no possibility of extension. The UN Volunteer will be working within the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at its headquarters in Geneva, to support the Digital Transformation project team. The current priority of the team is to improve access to the human rights mechanisms for all stakeholders by enhancing the quality and accessibility of digital services.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Support the Digital Transformation project team in preparing and documenting meetings with staff, civil society, independent experts, State representatives, and other stakeholders, focusing on needs and requirements for digital services.
- Participate in the design and development of digital services and tools, including the collaborative development of mock-ups and prototypes.
- Contribute to user experience design and graphic design tasks to improve the accessibility, user-friendliness, and aesthetics of digital platforms.
- Support the team in developing guidance and training materials for internal and external audiences related to digital services.
- Provide overall support to the team, including administrative tasks and project coordination, while fostering strong working relationships.
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
- You will contribute to the following outputs:
- An accessible and user-friendly public submission portal for individual complaints to the UN Human Rights Mechanism.
- A digital tool to track the implementation of recommendations by UN Human Rights Mechanisms for State representatives and other stakeholders.
- A digital session management system for UN Human Rights Mechanisms.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Currently studying towards a degree in Communication Design, User Experience Design, Business Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Law, or another relevant field.
- Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in digital service design, user experience design, graphic design, data analysis, software development, or other relevant fields.
- Secondary education with previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in another culture is highly regarded.
- Fluent in English.
- High degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and ability to work independently under established procedures in a politically sensitive environment.
- Commitment to continuous learning and stay abreast of new developments in the area of expertise.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
- Effective organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and to plan and work under pressure.
- Teamwork and respect for diversity.
- Good spoken and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct presentations.

- Candidates must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment and be aged 18 - 26.
- Foreign nationals who are residing in Switzerland at the time of their recruitment will not be considered “international” and as such would not be considered eligible.
