Opportunity description

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is a public research university established in 2010 and located in the cities of Joensuu and Kuopio. It hosts over 16,000 students from more than 100 countries and is considered one of Finland’s leading multidisciplinary universities, offering programs in medicine, economics, social and human sciences, environment, health, law, and technology.

UEF offers a range of scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s level students from outside the EU/EEA. These scholarships fully or partially cover tuition fees for English-taught programs. The scholarships fall into three main categories:

  • UEF Scholarship: 100% tuition fee waiver
  • Tuition Waiver: Partial tuition waiver of up to 50%
  • Finnish Proficiency Waiver: Additional waiver based on Finnish language proficiency during studies

Application Deadline
Applications for admission to bachelor’s and master’s programs are submitted through the national Studyinfo.fi portal from 7 to 21 January 2026 for studies starting in autumn 2026. UEF scholarships are assessed during the admission process — no separate scholarship application is needed. Final scholarship decisions are announced along with the admission results.

Benefits

  • Full or partial tuition fee waiver (100% or 50%) depending on the scholarship type
  • Coverage for up to three years for bachelor’s programs and two years for master’s programs
  • Special grants for the second year based on first-year academic performance (completion of 55 ECTS)
  • Additional support for students demonstrating Finnish language proficiency during their studies

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicant must be from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland and subject to tuition fees
  • Must apply to a full-time English-taught bachelor’s or master’s program
  • Must demonstrate strong academic performance, which is considered in the scholarship decision
  • To maintain the scholarship in the second year, the student must complete 45–55 ECTS credits with good grades in the first academic year
