United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is offering UNOPS’ Global Innovation Challenge for entrepreneurs, corporations, academia, investors and other innovators to provide the creative ideas and solutions needed to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.


Benefits

  • Startups that are selected to be incubated will have access to tailor-made coaching and various other services offered by the Innovation Centre.
  • Each participant will have the programme custom-made for their needs, including hand-picked mentors from the specific field of expertise.
  • Participants will have access to UNOPS’ leading expertise in sustainable development, impact management, ESG metrics as well as in project management, procurement and financial management.
  • Participants will also have access to the top global and local expertise and contacts, including opportunities to pitch to potential investors and venture capitalists at pitching sessions organised by the Innovation Centre.
  • Participants will also be offered physical facilities at the Innovation Centre for the duration of the incubation) (approximately one year).
  • Some participants may also be given the opportunity to take part in an international exchange between other Innovation Centres.


Eligibility criteria

  • The Challenge is open to both individuals and groups, such as business entities and other types of organisations.
  • The Challenge is open for entrepreneurs, corporations, academia, investors and other innovators.
  • Female applicants are encouraged to apply. 

Solutions Criteria:

  • The applicant should develop new technology and solutions for creating infrastructure, networks and systems that can withstand shocks and stresses.
  • The solutions need to demonstrate how technology – from sensors to artificial intelligence – could build climate resilience, helping societies prepare for and adapt to the challenges posed by climate change.
  • Data on climate and natural resources – such as forests and ocean – can be captured and analyzed.
  • Accurately analyzing and utilizing that data will play an important role in designing and building resilient infrastructure, networks and systems.
  • Solutions could range from ensuring reliable power generation and effective emergency responses in the midst of a fierce storm, to advancing sustainable agriculture and protecting biodiversity.
  • It could include improving access to clean and safe drinking water – and much, much more.
