Opportunity description
UNV offers a volunteer opportunity in Egypt to work as a value-added tax (VAT) accounting expert for 6 months which is expected to start on 02/07/2023. As an international UN Volunteer, you will work in the BFS Team with regular communication and coordination with the BCs of WHO EMRO. You may be required to travel to the country offices of WHO EMRO.
Duties & responsibilities
Under the day-to-day supervision and guidance of the Finance Officer, you will undertake the following tasks:
- Perform account analyses and reconciliations to ensure quality reporting, closure of accounts, and monitoring of value-added tax (VAT) transactions in WHO EMRO.
- Develop guides and provide trainings for timely submission of VAT claims, reconciliation, and monitoring of VAT transactions.
- Coordinate with WHO EMRO Budget Centers (BC) and BFS to validate VAT transactions and resolve VAT-related issues.
- Assist BCs in preparing justification for a write-off of VAT receivable.
- Provide regular reports and updates on the required task.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Master's degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 15 years of experience in applying general accounting principles, procedures, and practices.
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Previous experience reconciling VAT receivable or other complex GL accounts.
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel.
- Familiar with accounting systems (Oracle, SAP, etc.).
- Excellent oral and written skills, excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills.
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
- Familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
- Communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (PPT, Word, among others), email, and the Internet.
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Internationally recognized professional accounting designation (CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA, etc.).
- Technical expertise and teamwork skills.
