Volunteer in Iraq with UN Volunteers: Associate forensic Geneticist

United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Iraq: Associate forensic Geneticist.

Duration:

12 months (with possibility of extension)

• Contribute to the conduct of needs assessment of a high throughput DNA laboratory
• Focus on scientific methodologies used to establish DNA profiles from samples collected for the purpose of large-scale genetic matching of ISIL victims recovered from mass graves in Iraq.
• Advance programmes and training initiatives designed to strengthen the capacity and throughput of a national DNA laboratory used to identify persons missing as a result of ISIL crimes.
• Assist in the design and development of training materials, to strengthen national capacity
• Advise on reporting procedures, standard operating procedures and user manuals in accordance with relevant ISO standards
• Set up and maintenance of a DNA laboratory quality management system.
• Perform any other duties as required.

Age: 27 - 80

Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.

Required experience:

• 5 years of experience in in biology, biochemistry, forensics, genetics or other related scientific fields. 
• Work experience in a forensic DNA laboratory in the Middle East and North Africa region is desirable.
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Excellent reporting skills
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision
• Ability to work with tight deadlines

1. English, Level: Fluent, Required
2. Arabic, Level: Fluent, Required

Required education level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent in Biology, biochemistry, forensics, genetics or other related scientific fields
