Opportunity description

UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity, as The UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office is looking to support UNICEF Regional and country offices and provide technical assistance in aspects of social media monitoring, rumor tracking and management and online listening.

In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The outbreak has infected millions of people across the world and caused significant loss of lives. To protect people from the disease, vaccines against COVID-19 have been developed by several manufacturers in a number of countries. It is expected that there will be only limited number of vaccines produced in the early days, and gradually scaled up. Hence, countries will need to prioritize population who will receive the vaccine in the first round. In the meantime, COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in misinformation about the origin, prevention, and treatment of the disease which has been spread through social media, but also at community level. This may be creating hesitancy to reach immunization service and risk to mistrust in the services. Families and communities need to be provided with accurate and up to date information on COVID-19 vaccine.
