Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers Program offers a volunteer opportunity in Congo as a mechanic for heavy vehicles.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Complete maintenance and repairs for all light and heavy UN vehicles.
- Assist with wider workshop management in all relevant transport sub-units.
- Identify spare parts from the manufacturer's spare parts reference book.
- Ensure that all spare parts, filters, lubricants, etc. are properly documented in the Vehicles Work Order.
- Assist in vehicle recovery/repair on-site for vehicles that cannot be returned to the workshop for repair.
- Maintain all equipment provided for use within the workshop area.
- Allocate time to develop your capabilities, through various training and mentoring opportunities.
- Any other related duties as assigned.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- You must be between 27 and 80 years old.
- You must be a national of any country other than the country of appointment.
- 5 years of experience in transportation or vehicle mechanics/electrical.
- Diploma/technical certificate in the field of vehicle mechanics/electricity.
- Good knowledge of electrical wiring diagrams, and previous experience working in HVAC systems.
- Good experience with fault diagnosis systems and following a fault diagnosis scheme approach.
- Good knowledge of auto spare parts management, inventory, and storage and good experience in picking up required spare parts using various spare parts provisioning tools including (manual parts, CDs, DVDs, and manufacturer websites).
- Proficiency in writing and speaking skills in English.
- Working knowledge of French.
- Understanding and previous experience in the areas of hydraulic systems, pumps, control mechanisms, electrical/electronic systems, automatic transmissions, and air brake systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.
- Driving license for a national/international vehicle up to category C.
