UNV is offering a volunteer opportunity in the field of water/irrigation engineering in Lebanon. The UNDP “Support to Host Communities in the Water and Sanitation Sector” project is seeking to hire a local UNV specialist who will be responsible for assisting the project engineer in Jibal. Lebanon and South Lebanon to supervise the site and follow up on the work and workers there. He will also be responsible for assisting in coordination with local authorities, water Corporation employees, and other actors working in the region.
Duties & responsibilities
- Assist in following up and implementing civil works on site and submitting a daily report to the project engineer.
- Assist in coordinating work on site and in preparing reports on activities.
- Assist in coordinating tasks with other partners and local colleagues.
- Supervising and following up on daily work tasks and security measures on-site.
- Maintain records of daily attendance on site and prepare reports on days worked and work completed.
- Preparing bi-weekly reports on work progress.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities as necessary or assigned to you by the project engineer working in the area.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Be between 27 and 80 years old
- Be a citizen or legal resident of the country of appointment.
- 4 years of experience in water/irrigation, concrete works, or any other related programs.
- Work experience in the United Nations or other international development organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
- Ability to work comprehensively and collaboratively with a range of different partners, including community members, faith-based and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team of international and local staff.
- Good general computer knowledge, including various MS Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/Internet.
- Familiarity with database administration; and office technology equipment.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- It is preferable to possess a valid national driving license.
- Sound security awareness.
- Fluency in English.
- It is preferable to have a working knowledge of the French language.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering and/or any related fields such as civil engineering, agriculture, irrigation, or mechanics.

- Teamwork and communication skills.
