United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Congo: Nurse.
Duration:
12 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Work in the walk-in clinic & the nursing facility;
- Respond to emergency calls and assist doctors in providing adequate care and performing respective duties in the treatment of the patient;
- Perform ECG, and other medical exams such as blood tests and urine test as required;
- Prepare patient for different intervention and escort patient to other medical facilities as required;
- On call and other duties including weekends as required;
- Responsible for emergency room and doctor’s consultation rooms, ensure that all equipment are ready for use
- Receive patients and record the necessary data for effective treatment in the UN data system and maintain patient’s records and exercise confidentiality.
- Communicate with patients, provide necessary information and updates the doctors in the clinic.
- Accord patients fair and equal treatment regardless of ethnic background.
- Assist in providing health education, training and addressing work environment and occupational health issues;
Medico Administrative Duties: - Actively contribute in planning and organizing preventive and primitive medical practice;
- Plan and organize First Aid Training for staff;
- Contribute to monthly newsletter;
- Maintain the clinic pharmacy by keeping the database updated and advising the head-nurse on stock status
- Perform other related duties as may be required.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- 5 years of experience in Registered Professional Nurse who is a graduate of either an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Programme (University), or an accredited Diploma Programme (4 years – Secondary Education).
- Valid license to practice medicine in their home country and/or their country of residence;
- Military and/or experience in a post conflict area will be an asset
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in various MS office applications (Excel, Word, PPP);
- Good client orientation and service;
- Remain professional and support colleagues in the section in work related matters
- Teaching experience would be an advantage to provide training to the medical and non-medical personnel when required.
