United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in South Sudan: Law Officer.
Duration:
12 months (with possibility of extension)
Duties & responsibilities
- Provide technical and operational assistance to national partners in programme development and design.
- Enhance capacity of national justice and security institutions to ensure accountability.
- Monitoring and advocacy in support of mobile courts and other co-locations with national justice actors in Juba and Field Offices.
- Develop and maintain relations with government officials.
- Actively promote coordination and communication between international and national partners, with a view to supporting deployment of mobile courts.
- Ensuring that all technical advice is provided in a harmonized manner and support is consistent with international best practice and human rights.
- Support the section's legal reform activities by researching and formulating technical legal and policy.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- 3 years of experience in the field of practicing lawyer, prosecutor, judge, or advisor in the field of justice at the national or international level, with experience in criminal law matters is required.
- At least one year of Field experience.
Languages: English, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
- Master degree or equivalent in law is required.
- A focus on transitional justice or international development is desirable.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
