Opportunity description

UN Volunteers platform is offering a volunteering opportunity in Beirut, Lebanon at WHO as a Field Monitoring Assistant. The main objective of this assignment is to improve field monitoring on essential medications (acute and chronic including mental health) being dispensed at primary health care centres and health dispensaries.

Volunteer duration:

6 months (with possibility of extension)


Duties & responsibilities

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Pharmacist National Professional Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Field Monitoring Assistant will:

  • Conduct field visits on national level (across different regions) as well as remote monitoring (by phone when needed) to primary health care centres and dispensaries
  • Support in communication with the PHC centres and health dispensaries as requested, and ensure providing active feedback and timely reporting
  • Assist in preparations for meetings; draft emails, notes for the record, minutes of meetings and other documents as needed
  • Assist in preparations for training workshops; draft email invites, coordinate attendance with partners, monitor attendance, write training reports, etc.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Eligibility criteria

  • Age: 27 - 80
  • Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
  • Languages: Arabic, Level: Fluent, Required English, Level: Fluent, Required French, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
  • Required education level: Bachelor degree or equivalent in Pharmacy, Biology.
  • Required experience:
  1. 3 years of experience in Pharmacy, public health, or clinical monitoring, or other relevant programmes; experience with public health is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization.
  2. Proven experience in public health related settings
  3. Bachelor degree or equivalent
  4. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.
  5. Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  7. Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  8. Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
  9. Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  10. Sound security awareness.
  11. Have affinity with or interest in WHO’s work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
