Opportunity description
The Wells Festival of Literature is holding international competitions for poetry, short stories, and children's books. All competitions open on April 1, 2025, and close on June 30, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 20, 2025.
Open Poetry International Competition:
- Line limit: 35 lines.
- Entry fee: £6.
- Prize: 1st prize £1,000. Shortlisted poems will be included in a poetry booklet. Poets will be invited to read their poem or submit a video.
Young Poets’ International Competition:
- Line limit: 35 lines.
- Entry fee: £3.
- Prize: 1st prize £200 plus a year’s subscription to The Poetry Society. Shortlisted poems will be included in a poetry booklet. Poets will be invited to read their poem or submit a video.
Short Story International Competition:
- Submit a story between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
- Entry fee: £6.
- Prize: 1st prize £750. All shortlisted entrants will be invited to Wells for the competition event.
Book for Children International Competition:
- Submit the first 30 pages or the first three chapters, whichever is shortest.
- Entry fee: £6.
- Prize: 1st prize £750. All shortlisted entrants will be invited to Wells for the competition event.
