GEEP invites innovators to a competition; Youth Innovation Challenge, to propose a solution to address climate change, marine litter, or both issues, using environmental education as a key strategy. The competition is looking for solutions that are innovative, feasible, and informed by research and could include applying an existing tool or approach in a new context. Or, a solution could involve something completely new. This is your chance to think creatively about the problem you want to solve.
Benefits
If you are one of the fifteen YIC finalists, you will receive the following benefits:
- An official YIC finalist certificate.
- Recognition through GEEP, NAAEE, and other global partners’ websites and social media pages.
- Additional exposure for your solution to environmental education leaders and influencers at the 2021 Asia Pacific Virtual EE Forum.
- Each one of three selected winners from the 15 YIC finalists will receive $1,000 USD.
Eligibility criteria
You should meet these criteria:
- The Youth Innovation Challenge is intended for young leaders and innovators aged 15–30.
- Your innovative solutions must:
- address climate change or marine litter, or both.
- include an environmental education component.
- Only one proposal per person will be accepted.
- Proposals will only be accepted in English at this time.
- Your video and written responses will score based on the strength of your solution and your ability to communicate your ideas and vision to the judges.
Please note: Finalists will be notified by mid-November 2021.

Your work will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Includes environmental education (EE) as one of the solution strategies through the presence of the following characteristics in your proposed solution:
- Building capacity for informed choices.
- Community-centered.
- Collaborative and inclusive.
- Focused on action.
- Informed.
- Innovative.
- Feasible.
