ESCWA is pleased to announce the launch of this year's Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD), which is the primary regional mechanism for the follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region. It brings together Arab Governments and sustainable development stakeholders to discuss progress, review national and regional experiences, and consider the latest developments and implementation mechanisms of the 2030 Agenda at the national and regional levels. This event will be chaired by Bahrain with the theme "Solutions and Action". The final report will be presented by the Chair of the Forum as the main input of the Arab region to the 2023 HLPF.
Conference themes:
The Forum reviews the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) globally reviewed at the HLPF in 2023:
- SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation.
- SDG 7 on affordable and clean energy.
- SDG 9 on the industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
- SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities.
- SDG 17 on partnerships for the Goals.
- It also focuses on regional goals and priorities, particularly poverty, inequality, and gender equality.

Eligibility criteria
You can participate in three ways:
- In-person participation (self-sponsored)
- You will cover the cost of your travel and accommodation.
- Virtual participation
- Sponsored in-person participation
- Participants who are sponsored by a non-ESCWA agency as well as residents of Lebanon.
Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA):
ESCWA was established in 1973, it is one of five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The role of the Commission is to promote the economic and social development of Western Asia through regional and subregional cooperation and integration. It plays a critical role in promoting a holistic approach to development in their regions and balancing the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development in their member States.
