The Rotlicht Festival contest is looking for artists who use the medium of photography, in which analog processes and elements play a crucial role.
Also welcome are analog works that are enhanced with digital techniques to create hybrid forms. We do not accept purely digital photographic works.
Benefits
- The selected 20 winners will be exhibited by us in our main exhibition at the Atelierhaus der Bildenden Künste Wien. From the 20 analog positions, 10 will be selected to be additionally presented with an image in an outdoor exhibition in front of the Museumsquartier for the duration of the festival.
- The project with the best jury rating will additionally be presented in the following year with a solo exhibition at the Photon Ljubljana Gallery.
Eligibility criteria
- Submit a PDF with a short concept (max.1000 characters including spaces) and 1-10 images. Resolution: max. 10MB
- A fee of 15 € will be charged for each submission. We at the Rotlicht Festival operate as a non-profit organization. Your submission and the help of our partners and sponsors will support analog photography in 2022 and make the festival possible!
- Submission: Individuals as well as groups may submit. The submission fee is per project.
- There is no restriction on age, gender, or nationality.
About Rotlicht Festival:
After the great success of ROTLICHT 2021 with 1300 visitors, we are pleased to open the second festival for analog photography in Vienna in November 2022. With our festival we offer an innovative space for a qualitatively new discourse on analog photography with a focus on theory, art and practice. Analog photography has been experiencing a revival in recent years, which can be seen increasingly in the growing supply (and also growing prices) of analog photographic equipment. A growing number of people are interested in analog practices and hybrid techniques again. Nevertheless, there is no networked international scene for analog photography. The ROTLICHT Festival is currently changing this. We are currently in the process of establishing an international scene for analog photography and have entered into partnerships with other European festivals for analog photography.
