About the organization

The Center for Advanced Sciences CAS Objectives: Contributing in raising consciousness in society and spreading the scientific way of thinking to eliminate ignorance, superstition and pseudo-science that is rampant in countries that do not have proper scientific education. In addition, to contribute in the global scientific advancement through achieving continuous new and original research. Moreover, what is truly genuine about the project is that it teaches relatively young students, some of the most advanced topics in theoretical physics, like for example, general relativity and the standard model of particle physics. Characteristics: What is so unique about this project is the scientific material taught. The curriculum was assembled and put by Mr. Raed Shaiia Where, he used references from top ranking universities around the world and he wrote simplified proofs for most of the theorems and ideas, in order for them to be understood by relatively young students. In addition, he authored several complete courses in some subjects, supplied with appropriate scientific references. In addition, he was helped in setting the temporal scheduling of the courses and in typing some of the lectures on paper by Mr. Ammar Atrash. Moreover, Mr. Raed has adequately prepared Mr. Ammar in the subjects that Mr. Ammar was going to teach in the institution. The most important principles that the material is founded upon are the motivation of continuous questioning by students, and avoiding memorization, as well as demanding sufficient evidence for all claims, focusing on the role of experiment, and doing scientific projects in which the students build the instruments needed on their own. All in a healthy atmosphere of teamwork, as well as adopting the open-test system. General lines: The curriculum consists of five levels, each spans one year. The first level consists in its entirety of pure mathematics, both basic and advanced (other than one course which includes three subjects: the scientific method, critical thinking, and logical fallacies). As for the second and the third levels, they include courses in both physics and mathematics. Finally, the last two levels include pure physics courses. The targeted group is individuals whose age exceeds 14. With exceptions for younger students under the condition, that they have finished a preliminary course which curriculum was also put by Mr. Raed Shaiia. Results: In only several months, the students have shown significant progress, for example, some of them have established on their own the existence and the known properties of tachyons. While all of them have made measurements of the relative distances between the sun, the Earth and the moon, and for the relative sizes of the sun and the moon, and produced relatively sound results considering the somehow primitive instruments they had made. Moreover, several teachers from local schools have admitted that the students have surpassed them by long shots in mathematics, Which drove some of the teachers to sign up to study in the institute. In fact, the preceding accomplishments have driven local media to make positive reports of the institute. In addition, most local NGOs now consider the institute to be the only trusted local scientific authority, and are aiming to work with it throughout Syria, and even some of them have suggested expanding the cooperation to include regions outside of Syria.
