Opportunity description

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) is offering an opportunity for an Assistant Production Manager under a nine-month contract at its headquarters in Toronto, Canada.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Supervising Producer and in close collaboration with the Production Manager to help coordinate the logistical aspects of film projects throughout the preparation, filming, and post-production stages.

The role includes coordinating filming locations, equipment, transportation, and permits, supporting production teams on set, and monitoring safety and quality procedures.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Participate in production meetings and assist in implementing filming plans.
  • Attend location scouting visits and technical surveys.
  • Coordinate filming location requirements, permits, equipment, and transportation.
  • Ensure that the required crews, supplies, and equipment are available for each project.
  • Monitor production and filming schedules in coordination with producers and location representatives.
  • Manage and monitor the Centre’s production equipment, including cameras, monitors, sound equipment, and lighting equipment.
  • Organize equipment collection, return, check-in, and check-out procedures.
  • Coordinate requests for additional rental equipment with suppliers.
  • Manage equipment transportation schedules and other production-related logistical needs.
  • Monitor the inventory of filming supplies and arrange purchases when necessary.
  • Prepare contracts, permits, memoranda of agreement, timesheets, and production-related financial forms.
  • Create purchase orders and provide accounting support under the supervision of the Production Manager.
  • Assist the production team in selecting trainees and assigning them to filming locations.
  • Ensure that filming locations comply with health and safety standards and professional practices.
  • Monitor image and sound quality during filming.
  • Coordinate with the Post-Production Manager to ensure that filmed materials are delivered correctly.
  • Prepare incident reports when necessary.
  • Support project wrap-up activities, including returning equipment and conducting a complete inventory.

Eligibility criteria

  • Two to three years of professional experience in film or television production and working on filming sets.
  • Two to three years of experience in a creative environment and collaborating with creative professionals.
  • A strong professional network of crew members and specialists within the production industry.
  • Good knowledge of union and professional association practices in the film and television sector.
  • Practical experience preparing ACTRA paperwork and reports.
  • Basic understanding of camera, lighting, and sound equipment, as well as technical production requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to organize multiple tasks, solve problems, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • First-aid certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, Salesforce, Slack, Asana, and Microsoft Office is considered an asset.
