The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is offering an exciting opportunity for the position of Communication Officer in Damascus, Syria. The selected candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of UNICEF’s communication and media strategies, create compelling media content and human-interest stories, and enhance the visibility of donor-supported programs. The role also involves managing media relations, producing digital and multimedia materials, and supporting awareness campaigns and special events aimed at promoting children's rights and highlighting the impact of UNICEF’s programs across Syria.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication and media plans and strategies.
  • Create, produce, and manage media, digital, and multimedia content related to UNICEF programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and communication partners.
  • Support local and international media campaigns, advocacy initiatives, and awareness activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication activities and measure their impact and effectiveness.
  • Prepare reports, communication materials, and visibility products for donors and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with partners, public figures, influencers, and supporters involved in various initiatives and campaigns.
  • Strengthen UNICEF’s corporate brand presence and showcase the impact and achievements of its humanitarian programs.


Eligibility criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least one year of professional experience in communications, media, digital media, or a related area.
  • Experience in content writing and the production of media and multimedia materials.
  • Strong communication, networking, and partnership-building skills.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of humanitarian or development work is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and under pressure.
