Opportunity description

Dubai American Academy, part of GEMS Education, is accepting applications for a full-time Computer Science Teacher position starting in August 2026 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The academy is seeking a teacher with experience in teaching computer science to secondary school students. The successful candidate should be able to deliver engaging and interactive lessons, develop students’ critical-thinking skills, and encourage exploration and practical, hands-on learning.

Duties & responsibilities

The Computer Science Teacher will be responsible for:

  1. Teaching computer science in accordance with the school’s approved curriculum and educational standards.
  2. Planning and delivering engaging and interactive lessons.
  3. Developing innovative teaching strategies that encourage students’ interest in computer science.
  4. Strengthening students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ensuring consistency and organization in the delivery of curriculum content.
  6. Adapting teaching methods to meet students’ different needs and ability levels.
  7. Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
  8. Collaborating with teachers and colleagues to provide a supportive learning environment.
  9. Participating in parent-teacher meetings.
  10. Maintaining regular communication with parents regarding students’ progress and performance.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Hold a bachelor’s degree in education, or a relevant undergraduate degree combined with a recognized teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent.
  2. Have an academic qualification or specialization related to computer science.
  3. Demonstrate proven experience teaching computer science at the secondary school level.
  4. Preferably have experience teaching the International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement curricula.
  5. Preferably have previous experience working in a school that follows the American or International Baccalaureate curriculum.
  6. Possess strong knowledge of inquiry-based and practical, hands-on learning.
  7. Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  8. Be able to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  9. Show commitment to continuous professional development and improving teaching practices.
  10. Have more than two years of professional experience.
  11. Provide an approved criminal background check or police clearance certificate, such as a UK Enhanced DBS or equivalent.
