Dubai American Academy, part of GEMS Education, is accepting applications for a full-time Computer Science Teacher position starting in August 2026 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The academy is seeking a teacher with experience in teaching computer science to secondary school students. The successful candidate should be able to deliver engaging and interactive lessons, develop students’ critical-thinking skills, and encourage exploration and practical, hands-on learning.
Duties & responsibilities
The Computer Science Teacher will be responsible for:
- Teaching computer science in accordance with the school’s approved curriculum and educational standards.
- Planning and delivering engaging and interactive lessons.
- Developing innovative teaching strategies that encourage students’ interest in computer science.
- Strengthening students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ensuring consistency and organization in the delivery of curriculum content.
- Adapting teaching methods to meet students’ different needs and ability levels.
- Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
- Collaborating with teachers and colleagues to provide a supportive learning environment.
- Participating in parent-teacher meetings.
- Maintaining regular communication with parents regarding students’ progress and performance.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in education, or a relevant undergraduate degree combined with a recognized teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent.
- Have an academic qualification or specialization related to computer science.
- Demonstrate proven experience teaching computer science at the secondary school level.
- Preferably have experience teaching the International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement curricula.
- Preferably have previous experience working in a school that follows the American or International Baccalaureate curriculum.
- Possess strong knowledge of inquiry-based and practical, hands-on learning.
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Be able to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Show commitment to continuous professional development and improving teaching practices.
- Have more than two years of professional experience.
- Provide an approved criminal background check or police clearance certificate, such as a UK Enhanced DBS or equivalent.
