Opportunity description

DROSOS FOUNDATION has opened applications to join its network of experts in Jordan for a Freelance Finance Consultant opportunity, with the aim of supporting the Foundation’s partner organizations in developing their systems and procedures related to financial management, accounting, reporting, auditing, and internal controls.

The consultancy will be carried out on a part-time and on-demand basis, with an average commitment of 3 to 5 working days per month, equivalent to approximately 20 to 40 working days per year depending on the number and scope of available assignments. The consultant must be based in Jordan and able to travel to partner organizations across the country.

The consultant will work with community-based organizations, NGOs, companies, and social enterprises, and will receive guidance and supervision from the Finance Manager for the Levant Department at DROSOS.

Duties & responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the consultant include:

  • Assessing the financial and administrative capacities of potential partner organizations before engagement.
  • Reviewing financial policies, procedures, systems, taxation, social security, and governance practices.
  • Analyzing funding sources, revenues, and business plans, and providing recommendations to improve financial sustainability.
  • Reviewing quarterly or semi-annual financial reports and supporting documentation.
  • Monitoring project budgets, financial statements, and external audit reports.
  • Tracking cash flows and expenditure rates against approved budgets.
  • Providing advice on fund and cash flow management.
  • Supporting partner organizations in strengthening internal control tools, such as bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Training and mentoring finance staff within partner organizations.
  • Identifying financial capacity gaps and recommending solutions to address them.
  • Delivering training workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions when needed.
  • Preparing interim financial reports and assessments and sharing findings and recommendations with DROSOS FOUNDATION.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in:
    • Finance.
    • Accounting.
    • Business Administration.
    • Or a related field.
  • Have at least 7 years of relevant professional experience in financial management, grant and partnership management, or accounting within the non-profit sector.
  • Have proven experience in budget preparation and review, as well as financial reporting.
  • Have previous experience managing partnerships and grants with local organizations or civil society organizations.
  • Possess strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial systems, budget monitoring, cash flow management, and internal controls.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of Jordanian laws and regulations relevant to the assignment, including labor law, taxation, and banking regulations.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, with knowledge of electronic accounting software preferred.
  • Be fluent in both Arabic and English.
  • Be able to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Be willing to travel to partner organizations across Jordan.
