The IAEA is offering Emergency Communication and Outreach internship in Austria-Vienna-Vienna-IAEA Headquarters. As it accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details). To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole.
Duration:
12 months.
Duties & responsibilities
- Supporting the IEC's outreach activities: including developing content to communicate the technical aspects of emergency preparedness and response measures in plain language; contributing to drafting, developing content (web articles, multimedia, publications, presentations, stakeholder updates);
- Developing the technical content on the emergency website; contributing to updating webpages, including content management and research; compiling news summaries; supporting the development of EPR Public Communication publications; supporting the development and implementation of social media campaigns and related outputs.
- Supporting the Outreach Officer with social media work: drafting Tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts; identifying trends to improve social media presence and engagement; keeping an updated Trello board to manage team activities; translating social media material to other UN official languages.
- Preparing and issuing a daily media survey on developments in emergency preparedness and response.
- Supporting the Crisis Communication Adviser and the Outreach Officer in preparing webinars, in developing and delivering exercises and training, in developing materials for use in the online tools for Public Information Officers.
- Supporting the Outreach Officer with activities related to: participation in preparing and conducting conferences by inventorying publications, tracking their use, preparing the IEC operational area for tours, preparing outreach materials, taking photographs, drafting social media posts; coordinating the supply of outreach material; preparing and supporting visits to the IEC operational area, including logistics, arranging promotional material and guiding visitors to the Centre.
Eligibility criteria
- University degree in international relations, journalism, political science, translation, sociology, communication, with an emphasis on public communication or technical degree with concentration in science communication, Master's Degree is an asset.
- Experience in content development, specifically drafting web articles and social media content.
- Experience in graphic design and/or multimedia production.
- In-university or extracurricular coursework addressing the communication of technical information to non-technical audience is an asset.
- Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
- Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
- Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
- Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
- Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
