Opportunity description
NOKIA in Belgium is offering an internship opportunity in AI/ML software development. NOKIA's AI/ML team is developing various kinds of algorithms to achieve anomaly detection and network self-optimization tasks. In this context, multiple internship opportunities are available, depending on the interests and skills of the students.
Duties & responsibilities
The intern may be involved in one or more of the following:
- Network traffic simulation: several theoretical models have been developed in the past to characterize and simulate internet traffic. However, recent progress in deep learning, especially in the field of generative adversarial networks, makes it possible to generate any kind of data provided a minimal input data set. The content of the internship would be a comparison of the two approaches applied to internet traffic data.
- Network traffic optimization: currently most internet subscriptions for residential consumers are advertised as “unlimited”, while in practice there is always a limit to prevent abuse and network link saturation. While the overall internet traffic has been booming last year (because of COVID19), the risk of link saturation is increasing and the need for a more efficient way to manage or control internet traffic has emerged. The content of the internship would be to evaluate reinforcement learning techniques as an alternative to existing rule-based systems for residential traffic control.
- Anomaly detection: many anomaly detection algorithms are today available, well-known, and applicable to access network telemetry. However, their implementation in a cloud-native streaming type of architecture may have very different requirements in terms of CPU and memory footprint. The content of the internship would be a requirement comparison of the different state-of-the-art anomaly detection algorithms in the context of the Nokia Altiplano Access Network Controller.
Eligibility criteria
The intern may meet and/or have interest in any one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science.
- Excellent programming skills e.g. Python.
- Knowledge of AI & ML.
- Creative, collaborative, & product-focused.
- Expected to perform well in a fast-paced environment, to execute on the tasks assigned, to meet the production deadlines.
