The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is accepting applications for the position of Senior Finance Assistant in Türkiye, based at the organization’s office in Istanbul. The selected candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Senior Resources Management Officer in Ankara and the direct supervision of the National Budget Officer.
The position focuses on financial management, budget preparation and monitoring, expenditure control, donor financial reporting, payroll, and financial analysis of projects. The selected candidate will also support programme teams and senior management to ensure that financial resources are managed in accordance with IOM policies and procedures.
This opportunity is suitable for professionals with backgrounds in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related fields, particularly those with practical experience in financial management, budgeting, accounting, banking, or treasury operations.
Duties & responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing financial resources and monitoring assets, reserves, funds, and supplies in accordance with IOM regulations.
- Providing regular and ad hoc financial information to support decision-making.
- Supporting senior management in overseeing the financial management of projects.
- Preparing periodic reports on the financial status of projects.
- Monitoring expenditures and ensuring that financial commitments are recorded correctly.
- Preparing cash flow forecasts based on project activities.
- Ensuring that salaries and expenses are charged to the correct budget lines.
- Analyzing project financial performance and preparing financial reports for donors.
- Preparing annual project budgets and monitoring their implementation.
- Analyzing variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
- Contributing to the preparation of budgets for new projects and programmes.
- Managing financial and administrative files related to projects.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly payrolls.
- Reviewing budget proposals and assessing market prices for goods and services.
- Coordinating with project managers to ensure that expenditures are recorded under the correct budget lines.
- Performing any other financial duties as assigned.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants may qualify through one of the following two pathways:
- Hold a university degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
Or:
- Hold a high school diploma, with at least 6 years of relevant professional experience.
Applicants must also have:
- Experience in financial management, budget preparation and monitoring, and reviewing financial systems.
- Experience in accounting, finance, banking, or treasury operations.
- Good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in English.
- Proficiency in Turkish.
- Willingness to undergo a written or oral language assessment if required.
