The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) is offering a job opportunity for a Communications Officer – NOB based in Khartoum, Sudan, under a one-year temporary full-time contract.
The Communications Officer will work as part of the OCHA team in Sudan, contributing to the monitoring and analysis of humanitarian developments and the preparation and dissemination of content and reports that support humanitarian response and advocacy.
The role also involves collaborating with humanitarian organizations and partners to produce communication and media materials for the public, donors, and decision-makers.

Duties & responsibilities
Monitor and analyze humanitarian developments and emergency situations in Sudan and prepare regular reports.
Draft Flash Updates, Situation Reports, and Humanitarian Updates.
Prepare daily and weekly reports on the humanitarian situation.
Draft press releases, key messages, presentations, human-interest stories, and social media content.
Produce or oversee the production of photographs, infographics, videos, and other visual content.
Collaborate with communication teams from other humanitarian organizations to develop communication and advocacy strategies.
Participate in meetings, conferences, and working groups related to humanitarian affairs and emergencies.
Review and improve communication products prepared for the Humanitarian Coordinator.
Collect and analyze data and use charts, tables, and data visualization techniques to support reporting and decision-making.
Prepare management notes and humanitarian briefing packages for donors and partners.
Eligibility criteria
Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields:
Communications
International Relations or International Affairs
Social Sciences
Humanitarian Affairs
Development
Information Technology
Information Management
Or a related field
A bachelor’s degree may be accepted instead of a master’s degree with an additional two years of required professional experience.
Have at least 2 years of relevant experience with a master’s degree or 4 years with a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, humanitarian affairs, development, or a related field.
Have practical experience in humanitarian contexts, emergencies, or disaster settings within the United Nations system or a similar international organization.
Have experience producing field-based content, including video, human-interest stories, and photography.
Experience creating social media content is considered an advantage.
Experience coordinating with partner organizations is considered an advantage.
Experience preparing and analyzing reports for senior management is considered an advantage.
Be fluent in both Arabic and English.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an additional asset.
