UN Women is offering a job opportunity in Amman, Jordan for the position of Programme Specialist – Gender Statistics with a focus on Women Economic Empowerment, under the Women Count programme and the Women’s Economic Empowerment portfolio. The position is full-time and is open to Jordanian nationals only, under a National Personnel Service Agreement – NPSA-10 for an initial period of 12 months.

The Women Count programme focuses on strengthening the production, accessibility, and use of gender-related data and statistics to help governments and institutions develop policies and programmes and make evidence-based decisions. In Jordan, the programme works to enhance the capacities of governmental and non-governmental entities to produce and use gender data to monitor commitments related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Programme Specialist will support the implementation of the Jordan Women Count programme and provide programmatic, coordination, and operational support to the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio. This includes areas such as women’s employment, private-sector engagement, the green economy, and linking gender data and statistics with policies and programmes aimed at strengthening women’s economic participation in Jordan.

Duties & responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Designing and developing initiatives, proposals, and projects related to gender statistics and women’s economic empowerment.
  • Contributing to the preparation of work plans, periodic reports, policy documents, and strategies.
  • Managing the technical implementation of projects and monitoring work plans and budgets.
  • Reviewing partners’ financial and narrative reports and applying results-based management tools.
  • Providing technical assistance and building partners’ capacities in the field of gender statistics.
  • Developing technical tools and initiatives and organizing training, mentoring, and capacity-building programmes.
  • Building and managing relationships with government institutions, UN agencies, and organizations working in data and statistics.
  • Monitoring project implementation and budgets and preparing quarterly and donor reports.
  • Developing partnerships and resource mobilization strategies and identifying funding opportunities.
  • Coordinating with UN agencies, government entities, donors, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Preparing documents, briefs, and presentations, and contributing to advocacy, knowledge management, and communication efforts.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must have:

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics—particularly Econometrics—Data Science, Mathematics, International Development, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields may be accepted in place of a Master’s degree, provided the applicant has an additional two years of qualifying experience.
  • A certification in project or programme management is considered an asset.

Required Experience

Applicants must have:

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience at the national or international level in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects when holding a Master’s degree.
  • According to the published job requirements, applicants with a Bachelor’s degree are required to have 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical experience in Gender Statistics, with a focus on Women’s Economic Empowerment.
  • Experience using office software such as Word and Excel, as well as databases and web-based management systems.
