Opportunity description

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announces the opening of applications for the position of Senior Facilities, Infrastructure and Sustainability Management Consultant within the Central Support Services Division at UNRWA headquarters in Amman.

The position aims to support facilities and infrastructure management, coordinate construction and renovation projects, promote environmental sustainability, follow up on contracts and services, and support the implementation of the Sustainable Management and Resource Transformation (SMART) project.

Duties & responsibilities

The consultant’s responsibilities include the following:

  1. Coordinating facilities management operations and infrastructure-related activities within the Central Support Services Division.
  2. Supporting the planning and implementation of renovation, rehabilitation, and capital projects.
  3. Updating facilities management procedures, standard operating procedures, and technical guidelines.
  4. Following up on the implementation of infrastructure and renovation projects throughout the different stages of work.
  5. Monitoring compliance with technical standards, timelines, and quality requirements.
  6. Identifying project-related risks and challenges and reporting on them.
  7. Coordinating with contractors, service providers, and stakeholders to resolve project-related issues.
  8. Supporting the implementation of the SMART project and integrating sustainability principles into procurement and management operations.
  9. Collecting data on energy, facilities, and emissions, and supporting the preparation of related reports.
  10. Monitoring facilities management service contracts and service level agreements.
  11. Reviewing procurement specifications and service requirements, and following up on contractor performance.
  12. Preparing reports, updates, and analytical summaries for management.
  13. Supporting process improvement, knowledge sharing, and internal coordination on sustainability initiatives.
  14. Conducting field visits, inspections, coordination, and supervision at the work location.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a relevant field, such as facilities management, civil engineering, environmental management, or any related discipline.
  2. Have at least 6 years of experience in facilities management, infrastructure coordination, construction or renovation project support, sustainable procurement, environmental sustainability, or contract and service monitoring.
  3. Have good knowledge of facilities management, infrastructure, construction methods, health and safety requirements, and quality assurance practices.
  4. Be able to review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, construction plans, procurement requirements, and service standards.
  5. Have strong skills in project coordination, follow-up, reporting, and contractor performance review.
  6. Understand the principles of sustainable procurement, environmental sustainability, and energy, facilities, and emissions reporting.
  7. Be able to work under pressure and manage several tasks at the same time.
  8. Be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.
  9. Be fluent in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
