The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting applications for the position of National Project Coordinator, based in Manama, Bahrain, under a one-year contract.

The National Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing and implementing development projects, monitoring the progress of activities, and overseeing technical, administrative, and financial aspects. The role also involves building partnerships with government institutions, international organizations, and the private sector, while supporting policy development, strengthening governance, and promoting sustainable project management in line with national development priorities and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

Duties & responsibilities

The National Project Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Managing the project and overseeing the implementation of all day-to-day activities.
  • Preparing work plans, implementation schedules, and monitoring progress against agreed timelines.
  • Producing progress reports, technical reports, and financial reports for donors and other stakeholders.
  • Monitoring project budgets and resources while ensuring compliance with financial and administrative procedures.
  • Managing project risks, updating the risk register, and recommending appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Overseeing procurement processes and preparing terms of reference and technical specifications.
  • Providing technical advice to government institutions and partners on project management and development-related matters.
  • Collecting and analyzing data, policies, and relevant information, and preparing related studies and assessments.
  • Documenting best practices, lessons learned, and successful approaches.
  • Building and strengthening partnerships with government institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations.
  • Coordinating with regional teams, international organizations, development partners, and donors.
  • Integrating gender equality, disability inclusion, and youth considerations across all project activities.
  • Ensuring high-quality project delivery and full compliance with UNDP policies, procedures, and standards.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a master’s degree in one of the following fields:
    • Development Studies
    • Social Policy
    • Social Sciences
    • Sustainable Development
    • Gender Studies
    • International Relations
    • Public Policy
    • Law
    • Or another related discipline
  • Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree may be considered if they possess additional qualifying professional experience.
  • Candidates holding a master’s degree are not required to have prior professional experience.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have at least two years of relevant experience in the design, implementation, monitoring, or evaluation of development projects.
  • Demonstrate experience in project management, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Experience working with international organizations or on major environmental or development projects is preferred.
  • Have experience collaborating with government institutions, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
  • Possess strong report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Be able to conduct fieldwork and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Be fluent in both Arabic and English.
