Opportunity description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering an opportunity for the position of Programme Associate in Manama, Bahrain. The selected candidate will support the implementation and monitoring of development projects in the areas of economic development, governance, and environmental sustainability. Responsibilities include managing project data and budgets, tracking project performance, coordinating with partners and implementing entities, and supporting resource mobilization efforts. The role also involves preparing reports and ensuring that programme activities are delivered in line with United Nations standards and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bahrain.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of UNDP programmes and projects in Bahrain.
  • Create and manage projects and budgets using UNDP’s electronic management systems.
  • Track performance indicators and prepare periodic progress reports.
  • Review expenditures and ensure compliance with financial and administrative procedures.
  • Support internal and external audit processes related to project activities.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization efforts and the management of donor agreements.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and programme-related events and activities.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and knowledge products, and facilitate knowledge-sharing within the office.

Eligibility criteria

  • High school diploma with at least 6 years of relevant professional experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in administration, programme management, or development project implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic project management systems.
  • Previous experience with the United Nations or other international organizations is considered an asset.
  • Experience in monitoring development projects and preparing reports is desirable.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
