Opportunity description

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is offering an international remote consultancy opportunity with its Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in Cairo. The consultant will lead a multi-country regional study examining local ownership of climate-resilient livelihoods and its impact on human mobility patterns across North Africa.

The assignment focuses on analyzing the relationship between climate change, livelihoods, and migration in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Sudan. The selected consultant will prepare research outputs, analytical reports, and policy recommendations that support the development of national and regional programmes addressing climate change and human mobility.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Develop the study methodology and analytical framework.
  • Conduct a comparative analysis across six North African countries.
  • Map local stakeholders and community-led initiatives working on climate adaptation.
  • Analyze the relationship between livelihoods, climate change, and human mobility patterns.
  • Prepare a comprehensive regional report and a policy brief.
  • Develop presentations and recommendations for governmental and regional stakeholders.

Eligibility criteria

  • Master’s degree or higher in Migration Studies, Climate Change, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5–7 years of experience in applied research or policy analysis.
  • Experience conducting multi-country or regional studies and assessments.
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation frameworks, community-based resilience programmes, and human mobility issues.
  • Previous experience with the United Nations or the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is considered a strong advantage.
