Opportunity description

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is offering a consultancy opportunity for a Route-Based Approach Consultant within the Global Programme Division – Child Protection Section. The consultancy will run for 11 months on a remote basis, with an affiliation to the UNICEF office in Amman, Jordan.

The assignment aims to support UNICEF’s Migration and Displacement Hub in coordinating and implementing the Route-Based Approach (RBA), which focuses on improving the protection of migrant children, their families, and host communities along migration routes through cross-border cooperation and technical support.

The consultant will work with UNICEF regional and country offices, headquarters teams, and partners such as IOM and Save the Children. The role will also involve contributing to reporting, documenting lessons learned, and supporting policy discussions related to children on the move.

Duties & responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the coordination and implementation of the Route-Based Approach program.
  • Monitoring program activities, results, and implementation progress.
  • Preparing required reports and program deliverables.
  • Coordinating with UNICEF regional and country offices.
  • Collaborating with international partners such as IOM and Save the Children.
  • Contributing to the analysis of migration- and displacement-related data and policies.
  • Documenting lessons learned and good practices.
  • Supporting UNICEF’s participation in regional and international discussions on migration policy and child protection.
  • Contributing to the development of sustainable solutions based on the rights of children on the move.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must have:

  • An advanced university degree, such as a Master’s degree or equivalent, in one of the following fields:
    • Migration.
    • Refugee Studies.
    • Political Science.
    • Economics.
    • Development Studies.
    • Or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience coordinating migration and displacement programs.
  • Previous experience working within complex partnerships involving United Nations entities or multilateral institutions.
  • Experience in policy analysis, data analysis, and reporting with UNICEF or other United Nations agencies is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Ethiopia, Somalia, Libya, Tunisia, or Egypt is considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
