Opportunity description

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is accepting applications for a consultant position within the Global Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Leadership Team. The consultancy contract is for 12 months, and the work will be carried out remotely.

The project aims to strengthen the use of mental health data and evidence to support decision-making at the community, national, and global levels. This will be achieved through developing operational guidance, preparing tools, documenting country experiences, and supporting the development of mental health systems for children and adolescents.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Support the production and analysis of mental health data and evidence.
  • Develop operational models, guidance materials, and tools to support decision-making.
  • Conduct research reviews and analyze scientific evidence.
  • Organize and facilitate consultations with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) when required.
  • Document country experiences, case studies, and lessons learned.
  • Develop knowledge products to support the strengthening of mental health systems for children and adolescents.
  • Contribute to promoting the use of data in program and policy design.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Hold a master’s degree in psychology, mental health, data science, public health, or another relevant field.
  2. Have experience using mental health data and evidence to support programs or policies.
  3. Have experience working with a range of stakeholders.
  4. Have experience conducting research reviews or scoping reviews.
  5. Have experience organizing focus group discussions and consultations with different groups.
  6. Be proficient in spoken and written English.
  7. Experience developing or implementing guidance materials, tools, or simulations to support data-driven decision-making is preferred.
