Opportunity description

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is offering an opportunity to work as a Gateways to Public Digital Learning Initiative Coordination Consultant under the Gateways to Public Digital Learning initiative, a joint initiative by UNICEF and UNESCO that aims to help governments design, manage, and sustain safe, equitable, and high-quality public digital learning platforms.

The consultancy will run for 12 months and is home-based, with travel as required, while the official duty station is Amman, Jordan. The consultant will support the initiative in areas including coordination, project management, research, knowledge management, technical assistance, and engagement with countries and partners, as well as contributing to the development of digital content and platforms associated with the initiative.

Duties & responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the consultant include:

  • Supporting the coordination and management of the Gateways initiative, including follow-up on workplans and day-to-day projects.
  • Assisting with reporting, financial tracking, contracts, and procurement related to the initiative.
  • Coordinating with member states, governments, and international partners.
  • Supporting professional communities, cross-country learning programs, and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Developing, maintaining, and ensuring the quality of the Gateways Dashboard and Knowledge Hub.
  • Updating interactive maps, country profiles, and information on public digital learning platforms.
  • Conducting research and analysis on digital learning platforms.
  • Preparing recommendations, action plans, and technical notes for participating countries.
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of capacity-building workshops.
  • Supporting implementation of the UNESCO-UNICEF Charter for Public Digital Learning Platforms.
  • Organizing webinars, study visits, and peer-learning or exchange programs.
  • Preparing case studies, reports, presentations, and briefing notes.
  • Developing web content and communication and advocacy materials.
  • Supporting communication and reporting with donors, partners, and country offices.
  • Participating in up to two country missions, subject to UNICEF approval.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for the Gateways to Public Digital Learning Initiative Coordination Consultant position at UNICEF, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in education, international development, public policy, social sciences, digital transformation, technology for development, learning sciences, or another relevant field.
  • Have at least 5 years of professional experience in education, digital learning, international development, public-sector digital transformation, knowledge management, project coordination, or a related area.
  • Have experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects and initiatives, preferably involving governments, UN agencies, development organizations, or technology institutions.
  • Demonstrate experience in digital education, EdTech, public digital learning platforms, or Digital Public Goods.
  • Have experience preparing reports, technical briefs, case studies, presentations, and other knowledge products.
  • Have experience supporting donor reporting, partnerships, and project financial management.
  • Be able to analyze research and evidence and translate findings into concise reports and communication or advocacy materials.
  • Have experience organizing meetings, workshops, study visits, and technical exchanges.
  • Be able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of digital education policies, EdTech, and public digital platforms.
  • Possess strong research, writing, and coordination skills.
  • Have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
