Opportunity description

UNICEF has announced the opening of applications for a National MICS Consultant position in Algeria for a duration of 12 months, under a remote work arrangement with travel. This consultancy aims to support the UNICEF Algeria Country Office and the Ministry of Health in preparing, implementing, and disseminating the results of the MICS7 survey, one of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys that helps collect and analyze data related to children and households to support planning and decision-making.

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and in collaboration with the Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Algeria, providing technical support and guidance throughout the survey implementation stages, including planning, training, data collection, results analysis, and quality assurance.

Duties & responsibilities

The consultant’s responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting the UNICEF Algeria Country Office and the Ministry of Health in preparing for the MICS7 survey.
  2. Providing technical guidance throughout the survey implementation stages and the dissemination of its results.
  3. Helping coordinate work between UNICEF, the Ministry of Health, and technical experts.
  4. Supporting the design of the work plan and methodology for implementing the survey.
  5. Organizing and facilitating training sessions for the teams involved in implementing the survey.
  6. Monitoring the quality of data collection and ensuring compliance with the MICS methodology.
  7. Supporting data processing and analysis.
  8. Preparing or contributing to the writing of survey reports.
  9. Supporting the use of electronic data collection systems such as CAPI when needed.
  10. Traveling within Algeria and participating in external regional workshops when needed.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. The applicant must have a university degree, preferably a master’s degree, in one of the following fields:
    1. Demography.
    2. Statistics.
    3. Social sciences.
    4. Epidemiology.
    5. Or any related technical field.
  2. The applicant must have at least 5 years of experience in coordinating or managing quantitative household surveys.
  3. Previous experience in MICS surveys or Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) is an additional asset.
  4. Strong computer skills and experience in statistical analysis.
  5. Familiarity with data processing and analysis software, especially SPSS.
  6. Experience in organizing and facilitating training sessions.
  7. Experience in data analysis and writing survey reports.
  8. Experience in data collection using the CAPI system is an additional asset.
  9. Excellent communication and professional relationship-building skills.
  10. Knowledge or previous work experience in Algeria or the region is preferred.
  11. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and build effective relationships with national institutions.
  12. Ability to lead, manage, and supervise a team.
  13. Willingness to travel extensively within Algeria and attend regional workshops outside the country.
  14. Fluency in Arabic and French, both written and spoken.
  15. Strong ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken, is an important asset.
