Cambridge International School – Dubai, part of the GEMS Education network, has opened applications for a full-time School Librarian position in Dubai.
The school is seeking a candidate with experience in managing school libraries who can create an engaging environment for reading and research, manage both print and digital learning resources, and support students and teachers in accessing appropriate educational materials.

Duties & responsibilities
The responsibilities of the School Librarian include:
- Assisting students in selecting books appropriate to their ages, reading levels, and interests.
- Supporting teachers in sourcing curriculum-related educational materials.
- Managing book borrowing and returns and following up on overdue or unreturned books.
- Preparing reading lists suitable for different age groups.
- Teaching students, particularly younger learners, how to use the library and understand the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
- Managing the electronic cataloguing and classification of books.
- Overseeing the purchase of new books, periodicals, and educational resources.
- Maintaining and repairing books and withdrawing outdated materials when necessary.
- Managing the library’s audiovisual resources.
- Organizing reading programmes and cultural activities within the school.
- Updating past examination materials and university and career guidance resources.
- Maintaining an organized, attractive, and safe library environment.
- Training and supervising library staff and volunteers when required.
- Complying with GEMS Education policies and procedures.
- Attending meetings and carrying out any other duties assigned by school management.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Education, or a related field.
- Have practical experience working as a librarian, preferably in a school, university, or educational institution in the UAE.
- Possess good knowledge of library operations, cataloguing, and classification systems.
- Be familiar with library management systems (LMS) and electronic databases.
- Be able to manage collections and organize books and educational resources effectively.
- Possess strong research and information-retrieval skills.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with students and teachers.
- Have experience organizing reading programmes and cultural activities.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Be able to create an inclusive and engaging library environment for students.
- Be proficient in English; knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office and digital learning platforms.
- Understand how to select age-appropriate books in accordance with school policies in the UAE.
