Opportunity description

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking a Security & Safety Officer for its operations in Khartoum, Sudan. The selected candidate will be responsible for assessing security risks, monitoring and analyzing the security environment, and providing management with recommendations on preventive measures to ensure the safety and security of staff, assets, and humanitarian operations.

The role involves supporting security management processes, maintaining situational awareness, and contributing to the implementation of security procedures that enable the organization to operate effectively in a complex and challenging environment.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Collect, monitor, and analyze security-related information and data.
  • Prepare reports on security incidents and emerging developments.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and provide recommendations to management.
  • Monitor the implementation of security and safety procedures.
  • Organize security awareness sessions and training activities for staff.
  • Supervise security personnel and guards when required.
  • Manage contracts and relationships with security service providers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with security authorities and official stakeholders.
  • Contribute to crisis management, contingency planning, and emergency preparedness activities.

Eligibility criteria

  • University degree from an accredited institution.
  • Professional experience or academic background in security management, safety management, or crisis management.
  • Previous military, police, or emergency services experience is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Three to six years of relevant professional experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in high-risk environments.
  • Strong interest in humanitarian and field-based work.
