Opportunity description
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is offering a consultancy opportunity in Damascus to support programmes aimed at improving and developing Palestinian refugee camps in Syria. The consultant will be responsible for conducting socio-economic studies, analyzing development data and indicators, supervising field surveys, and providing evidence-based recommendations to support planning, decision-making, and efforts to improve living conditions for Palestinian refugees.

Duties & responsibilities
- Lead socio-economic studies and analytical assessments related to Palestinian refugee camps.
- Design and implement surveys and oversee data collection and analysis activities.
- Prepare reports, findings, and recommendations to support planning and decision-making processes.
- Supervise consultants and field teams involved in research and assessment activities.
- Integrate study findings into camp improvement and development plans.
- Coordinate with health, education, relief, and social services programmes.
- Support impact assessments, risk analysis, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Contribute to the development of databases, spatial analysis tools, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Eligibility criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of professional experience in planning and implementing socio-economic or community development projects.
- Experience in analyzing socio-economic data using statistical software and analytical tools.
- Experience in data collection, surveys, and field research methodologies.
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
- An advanced degree in Development, Management, Planning, or a related discipline is desirable.
- Knowledge of GIS and spatial analysis tools is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with the United Nations or humanitarian organizations is preferred.
