The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting applications for the position of Technical Specialist, Climate and Nature, based in Cairo, Egypt. The position is offered under a one-year contract, renewable in accordance with UNDP policies and organizational requirements.
The Technical Specialist will lead and manage a portfolio of projects focused on climate change, nature, and sustainable energy. The role includes providing technical and strategic advice, supporting programme design and implementation, and developing partnerships with government institutions, international organizations, development partners, and the private sector.
Through this position, the selected candidate will contribute to advancing climate action in Egypt, protecting natural resources, supporting sustainable development, and accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Duties & responsibilities
The Technical Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing technical and strategic advice on climate change and nature-related issues.
- Supporting the preparation of policies, programmes, and annual work plans.
- Leading and coordinating the implementation of projects related to climate, energy, and natural resources.
- Supervising project teams, technical experts, and consultants.
- Monitoring project implementation and ensuring compliance with quality standards, budgets, and timelines.
- Preparing technical, financial, and donor reports.
- Assessing project risks and developing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Building and strengthening partnerships with government institutions, donors, international organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting resource mobilization and project financing efforts.
- Organizing training, capacity-building, and knowledge-management activities.
- Documenting lessons learned, successful approaches, and best practices.
- Contributing technical expertise in areas including:
- Climate change adaptation
- Energy transition
- Nature-based solutions
- Disaster risk reduction
- Water security and land management
- Voluntary carbon markets
- Chemicals and waste management
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a master's degree in one of the following fields:
- Environmental Sciences
- Natural Resource Management
- Climate Economics
- Political Science or Social Sciences
- International Law
- International Relations
- Or another related discipline
- Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree may be considered if they possess additional qualifying professional experience.
- Have at least:
- Five years of relevant professional experience with a master's degree, or
- Seven years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrate experience in managing climate, environment, and sustainable development projects and programmes.
- Have experience in policy development, research, and providing technical advisory services.
- Possess experience in building partnerships with governments, international organizations, and development partners.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and project management systems.
- Be fluent in both Arabic and English.
- Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language is considered an asset.
