UNICEF is inviting applications for the position of Information Management Specialist to join its national team in Khartoum, Sudan.

The role is responsible for leading information management and geographic information system (GIS) activities within UNICEF Sudan, with a particular focus on collecting, analysing, and mapping data related to children and women affected by emergencies and humanitarian crises. The position supports evidence-based planning, rapid humanitarian response, and the effective targeting of programmes to the most vulnerable populations.

The Information Management Specialist will work closely with UNICEF programme teams, government ministries, United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, and humanitarian partners to develop reliable information systems, strengthen data quality, and support the monitoring and implementation of humanitarian and development programmes across Sudan.

Eligibility criteria

The Information Management Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Leading the collection of administrative and routine data on children affected by emergencies and humanitarian crises.
  • Organising, centralising, and analysing data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools.
  • Developing systems to monitor humanitarian situations in real time.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and quality of data used in monthly humanitarian reports.
  • Producing maps identifying the locations of the most vulnerable children and families.
  • Collaborating with humanitarian coordination groups and UNICEF-led clusters.
  • Supporting needs assessments for children and women and identifying service gaps.
  • Assisting Sudanese government ministries in strengthening information management systems.
  • Providing technical support to field offices and government counterparts across the states.
  • Preparing and disseminating 4W and 6W information products and reports.
  • Mapping humanitarian assistance, supplies, and available stock.
  • Training UNICEF staff and partners on the use of GIS tools and applications.
  • Supporting the adoption of GeoAI and geospatial artificial intelligence technologies.
  • Improving data integration and interoperability across multiple information systems.
  • Applying data governance standards and ensuring data quality assurance.
  • Using advanced analytics and automation to improve operational efficiency.
  • Strengthening the data management and analytical capacities of UNICEF staff and partners.
  • Documenting best practices and lessons learned.
  • Developing practical guidance to enhance humanitarian information management processes.
