The United Nations announces the opening of applications for the position of Regional Director at the D-2 level within the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) in Amman. The position aims to lead the regional office, support the Resident Coordinator system, and strengthen coordination among United Nations agencies and regional and international partners to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Duties & responsibilities
The Regional Director’s responsibilities include the following:
- Leading the regional office of the United Nations Development Coordination Office in Amman.
- Providing strategic support to Resident Coordinators and United Nations Country Teams in the region.
- Strengthening regional cooperation among United Nations agencies, regional economic commissions, international financial institutions, and development partners.
- Leading efforts related to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
- Developing regional and multi-country partnerships to support sustainable development priorities.
- Supporting resource mobilization, joint financing, and joint programming efforts at the regional and country levels.
- Providing strategic guidance on issues related to development, crises, human rights, prevention, and peacebuilding.
- Leading planning, monitoring, reporting, and results management processes at the regional office level.
- Overseeing budgets, resources, programmes, and teams within the regional office.
- Supporting digital transformation, innovation, process simplification, and improving the efficiency of administrative and programme work.
- Managing and guiding staff while promoting a work environment based on collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
- Representing the organization in relevant regional and international meetings, conferences, and events.
Eligibility criteria
To apply for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a master’s degree or equivalent in international relations, public administration, law, social sciences, or a related field.
- A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in place of a master’s degree, with two additional years of qualifying experience.
- Have at least 15 years of experience in development cooperation coordination.
- Have at least 10 years of experience in senior leadership positions within international settings involving inter-agency or organizational cooperation.
- Have at least 5 years of field experience in development cooperation.
- Proven experience in leading strategies or formulating policies in the field of development coordination.
- Experience in international development, Sustainable Development Goals financing, innovation, and public-private partnerships.
- Experience in leading institutional reform or change management.
- Experience in overseeing the programme and administrative functions of a large and complex organizational unit.
- Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset.
