Opportunity description

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is offering a job opportunity in Syria under its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. The position is intended for applicants who have completed secondary education along with two years of post-secondary technical education or training in Mechanical Engineering. No previous work experience is required, making it suitable for recent graduates and technically qualified candidates.

The position mainly focuses on the educational and practical aspects of Mechanical Engineering. The selected candidate will contribute to preparing and delivering training programs, developing lessons and practical activities, supervising trainees in classrooms, laboratories, and workshops, and preparing both theoretical and practical tests and assessments.

The role also includes contributing to curriculum development in line with labor market needs and modern technologies, supporting the implementation of occupational health and safety standards, ensuring the quality of training, and integrating digital and green skills into vocational education programs.

Applicants are also required to demonstrate proficiency in both Arabic and English at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, in addition to having the required technical background in Mechanical Engineering.

Benefits

The position offers:

  • daily wage of USD 25.63.
  • One day of annual leave for each completed month of service.
  • One day of sick leave for each completed month of service.
  • A paid daily assignment for up to 3 months.
  • The possibility of extension depending on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and continued operational need.

Duties & responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design and development of educational and training programs and curricula.
  • Participating in the analysis of occupations, competencies, and skills within the relevant field.
  • Preparing program profiles, learning guides, and training manuals.
  • Evaluating and integrating new and emerging technologies into training.
  • Preparing and setting up training venues, facilities, and equipment.
  • Developing lesson and training plans.
  • Monitoring the learning process in classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and workplaces.
  • Supporting the inclusion of trainees with disabilities and special educational needs.
  • Integrating Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements, life skills, and employability skills into training.
  • Preparing and conducting theoretical and practical assessments for trainees.
  • Supporting communication with employers and vocational education and training instructors.
  • Collecting labor market information and using it to improve training programs.
  • Analyzing skills needs and gaps.
  • Applying quality assurance tools and procedures.
  • Supporting digital and green transformation initiatives in technical and vocational education and training.
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of synchronous and asynchronous training.
  • Collaborating with trainers and faculty members while maintaining a safe and organized training environment.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have completed secondary education.
  • Have completed two years of post-secondary technical education or training in Mechanical Engineering.
  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Be residing in Syria.
  • Live within a reasonable commuting distance of the duty station.
  • Hold a valid work permit in Syria at the time of application.
