10000 Euro Fellowship for Egyptian Women Researchers Offered by L’Oréal-UNESCO

L’Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science Egypt" fellowships program aims to promote the participation of young women in science coming from Egypt. This program identifies and rewards talented young female scientists in the field of Life Sciences (such as biology, biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, physiology, neurosciences, biotechnologies, ecology and ethology) as well as Physical Sciences (such as physics, chemistry, petroleum engineering, mathematics, engineering sciences, information sciences, Earth and Universe sciences). The Program honors three talented young Egyptian women researchers for the quality of their research works and encourages them to pursue a brilliant career in science.

Fellowship Value

One fellowships amounting to Ten thousand Euros (€ 10,000 or equivalent in local currency) granted to Egyptian women researchers working in Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in Egypt. Two fellowships amounting to Six thousand Euros (€ 6,000 or equivalent in local currency) each will be granted to Egyptian women pursuing a PhD (doctoral degree) in Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in Egypt. The total amount will be used to cover the research expenses and/or travel and accommodation costs related to scientific visits, training, specialized courses etc. of minimum two months abroad.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Postdoctoral Researchers:
   1. Having obtained a PhD in one of the science fields mentioned above. Only applicants having obtained their PhD during 2014-2019 are eligible.
   2. Being of Egyptian nationality.
   3. Working in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in Egypt.
   4. Candidates must be no more than 40 years old by the end of the application period.
2.  Ph.D. Students:
   1. Having obtained a Bachelor (B.Sc.) and a Master (M.Sc.) degrees, or equivalent, in one of the science fields.
   2. Should be a full-time student in PhD and having registered in the 2nd year of the PhD program, or one year before the thesis defense.
   3. Being of Egyptian nationality.
   4. Working in a Research Laboratory, Institute, or University in Egypt.
   5. Candidates must be no more than 30 years old by the end of the application period.

Selection Criteria:

• The candidate’s outstanding academic record (including number, quality and impact of the scientific publications, conference presentations, patents…).
• The scientific quality and usefulness of the research project.
• The innovative approach (rationale, relevance, originality, outputs, applications, etc.) and the expected outcomes of the research.
• The ability of the candidate to communicate and promote sciences to a younger audience and to encourage young Egyptian & Arab female scientists.
• The candidate’s career path.

Timetable:

1. Application opening date: 15th of February 2019
2. Application closing date: 6th of June 2019
3. Attribution of applications and first review by the jury members: from the 7th of June to 25th of July 2019
4. Second review of applications by the jury for semi-finalists: from the 26th of July of August to 8th August 2019
5. Announcement of the winners: Second week of August 2019
6. Fellowship Awards Ceremony: between the beginning of October and last week of November 2019. The exact date will be announced later on.
