Opportunity description

Africa transport policy program announces African Road Safety Observatory's Storytelling Contest for African citizens aged from 18 and above. when you win, you will have the opportunity to attend Annual General Meeting (November 2019), where you can share your experience and advocate for change in front of Africa’s top transport leaders and decision-makers.

Details:

SSATP cooperates with the African Union Commission (AUC), European Union (EU), World Bank Group (WBG) to launch the African Road Safety Observatory's #Roads4Life Storytelling Contest to identify road safety champions who are working to make Africa’s roads safer.

Fields of Competition:

The primary purpose of Africa’s road safety storytelling contest is highlighting inspirational initiatives that showcase at least one of these topics :

  • Innovations for road safety, such as data-driven interventions that are working to improve road safety in African communities.
  • Personal stories of taking a stand to address day-to-day road safety issues, including existing road safety challenges and concrete demands to address them.
  • Road safety leadership in countries and communities, such as successful communication campaigns, education, and training programs.

they should be in the format of:

  • Written story
  • Comic strip
  • Short video

Submission Criteria:

  • Any person is aged 18 and over, living in Africa.
  • All entries must be in English or French.
  • Submissions must present "original” work as defined by copyright law.
  • Written Story: Must be less than 2,000 words and include at least one original photo to accompany the story. Participant must use Google Docs 5 5 - and get a shareable link so anyone with the link can view the entry and attach this link with a registration form.
  • Video: Must be max 5 minutes in length. Participant must upload a publicly viewable video to YouTube and attach the link of the video with the registration form.
  • Comic Story: Must be less than 5 pages in length. Illustrations can be in color or black-and-white. Participant must upload the comic story as a PDF file on Google Drive and get a shareable link so anyone with the link can view the entry and attach this link with the registration form.

Note: Only one submission per entrant will be allowed.

Prizes:

One winner will be selected for each format type. All stories will be judged based on clarity, the quality of the information provided, the relevance of the activity regarding road safety, and the results and impact of the intervention. The winners will win a trip to SSATP’s Annual General Meeting (November 2019), where s/he will have the opportunity to share the experience and advocate for change in front of Africa’s top transport leaders and decision-makers.
