Al Multaqa Prize for Arabic Short Story invites Arab writers to participate with their Arabic short stories in the 2019 competition. The competition aims to launch a literary prize from Kuwait that will encourage Arab storytelling as well as highlight Arab and worldly achievements which contributes to the importance and value of reading as means of reaching human knowledge.
Rules:
- The prize will be awarded to a group of stories that are published in Arabic
- Nominations for the prize shall be accepted by the author personally or by the publisher with a written consent from the author
- Each publisher can share two stories by two different authors
- Each group of stories must have an ISBN
- Publishers must have at least 2 years of experience in the field, and must submit to the Award Board their list of publications over the past 2 years
- The collection of stories is considered in the prize upon the receipt of a confirmation email to the writer or the publisher
- The author of the collection must be alive
- Stories that are written by more than one person will not be accepted
- Stories that has children as their main audience will not be accepted
- Stories that have already won local, Arab or international awards are not eligible for the award
- Past participation in this award will not be accepted
- Stories must be sent in PDF format including the cover image of the book and the first pages showing the international standard number, the publisher’s name and the publication year. Any story with missing information will not be accepted
Prize:
The winner of the prize will receive $20,000 in addition to an honorary shield and a certificate of appreciation. The American University of Kuwait will also pay a sum of money to translate the winning group of stories into English, as the winning author or publisher will have the task of communication with a translator and arranging the publication of the collection with a foreign publisher. The annual celebration to announce the winner of the first place is held during the first week of December every hear on the campus of the American University of Kuwait.
