Opportunity description

Climate change is the biggest issue of your lifetime. Your whole life will be lived as the impacts of global climate change are taking place. The Contest is a call for young artists, thinkers, and activists who are concerned about the future of our human and natural communities to use their creative voices to explore, express, and advocate for issues related to climate change and our oceans.

Create a piece about a coastal/marine species, place, or system that will be threatened, altered, or lost due to climate change.

Submissions are accepted in:

  1. Visual Art
  2. Poetry
  3. Prose
  4. Film
  5. Music

Who may enter?

Students from around the world are invited to participate in the Ocean Awareness Contest.

  1. Junior Division: Age 11-14
  2. Senior Division: Age 15-18

All students must also provide the contact information for an adult sponsor (teacher, parent, mentor, etc.). Students may participate as individuals or a group of any size.

Awards:

Awards will be given in each of the categories at both the Junior and Senior divisions:

  1. Gold Award: $1,000 for Junior division, $1,500 for Senior division.
  2. Silver Award: $750 for Junior division, $1,000 for Senior division.
  3. Bronze Award: $250 for Junior division, $500 for Senior division.
  4. Honorable Mention: $100 for Junior division, $250 for Senior division.
  5. Making Waves Award: the Making Waves Award will be awarded to one submission in each age division that demonstrates a powerful, engaging, and original voice of ocean activism. Winners receive a $250 cash prize.
