Opportunity description

The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa, is calling for applications for the Master's degree scholarships (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation (HRDA) for the Class of 2020. This prestigious degree is presented by the Centre in partnership with 12 leading African universities. The programme forms part of the Global Campus of Human Rights, with Pretoria as the hub of the African regional programme.

HRDA is a one-year intensive course where 25-30 exceptional individuals spend six months in Pretoria and six months at one of the 12 partner universities all over Africa. They are taught by eminent lecturers in the field of human rights and undergo many practical training exercises.

Eligibility:

  1. Law Students (LLM Option): A degree allowing access to the legal profession
  2. Non-law Students (MPhil option): An Honours degree in a discipline relevant to human rights and democratisation 
  3. Individuals from all African countries are invited to apply for admission to study for the Master’s Degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa.
  4. Applicants must be in possession of the first degree in Law (LLB) or an Honours degree relevant to human rights and democratisation.

Note: Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and demonstrate human rights experience or interest. Women, as well as members of minority groups such as indigenous people, and persons with disabilities, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Fees and Scholarships:

  1. Approximate cost of the programme (1 year) is 15,000$
  2. There are up to 25 FULL Scholarships available for African citizens.
  3.  Partially or fully self-funded students are also encouraged to apply for this programme.

  • A good quality photograph of yourself
  • For applicants who did not obtain their qualifications in English: TOEFL, SAT1 or IELTS Test certificate.
