Opportunity description
The International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) has an established fellowship program to provide pediatricians who work far from a pediatric nephrology training center with training in order to disseminate knowledge of pediatric nephrology to different regions around the world. IPNA’s successes in this program include 200 completed fellowships since 2003, and fellowships have been offered in 24 countries around the world.
Requirements:
- Be at least 30 years old.
- Be living and working in a developing country (low, lower middle or upper middle economy according to the World Bank criteria).
- Have received basic training in nephrology in your home country.
- Be nominated by a Home Mentor and your Home Institution who guarantees your re-employment once training has been completed.
- Be recommended by a senior nephrologist in your home country.
- Have identified an appropriate Host Mentor and Institution with whom you have agreed on a suitable training plan.
- Have your training plan reflect the skills and knowledge that are required by your Home Institution and which you can implement on your return.
- Understand and communicate in the host country’s language.
- Return to home within 3 months after completion of your training and must work in your home institution for a period of at least 3 years and fill a long-term position in your home country line with your training objectives.
- You may apply for an extension of your training at the host institution if the Home and Host Mentors feel this is necessary for a successful completion or your training plan.
- At the conclusion of the program, the trainees will be required to submit a report reviewing their training experience. This report is expected within the 3 months following the end of the training.
Funding and Benefits:
- Stipends covering travel expenses to go to national pediatric nephrology congress.
- A one year IPNA membership subscription including the access to the online version of “Pediatric Nephrology” Journal.
- An online copy of the textbook, “Pediatric Nephrology”, 7th Edition.
- Another year of IPNA membership subscription with the online access to the online version of "Pediatric Nephrology" Journal if the fellow fills another questionnaire.
