<p>The Hansen Summer Institute for Leadership and International Cooperation in the <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/country/United-States" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>US</strong></a> offers summer <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Fellowships" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>fellowships</strong></a> for international and U.S. students to build leadership skills and better cultural understanding to help form a more peaceful future.</p><h3>What does the fellowship include?</h3><p>Fellows receive hands-on training in team-building, public speaking, negotiation, mediation and working together to solve international problems. Leadership training includes meeting with political and business leaders to learn real-world skills and how to implement these skills at home after the program.</p><h3>Eligibility criteria:</h3><ol><li>The program is located in San Diego, CA and open to international and U.S. <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships/Bachelor" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>undergraduate</strong></a> and <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships/Master" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>master&rsquo;s</strong></a> students aged 20-25.</li><li>Successful applicants must demonstrate leadership potential by having worked outside of class in community service, another public service, or in a non-governmental organization. A letter of reference from such a group or organization is required.</li><li>Upper-division undergraduate with 2 years of college/university or graduate student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development or related fields.</li><li>Have an academic adviser verify in writing the candidate&rsquo;s English proficiency. (A verification request is automatically sent to your referee with the recommendation request.)</li><li>Have a valid international passport with a US visa if necessary by the time the program begins.</li><li>Preference may be given to students who have never been to the United States before but all qualified students are encouraged to apply.</li></ol><h3>What is Provided:</h3><ol><li>Accommodation and meals for the duration of the program, with shared rooms with participants of the same gender</li><li>Transportation to/from the campus to all meetings and activities.</li><li>Program materials</li><li>Certificate of Participation</li><li>Round trip airfare from the participant&rsquo;s home town to San Diego, California. (Not to exceed $500 for economy class)</li><li>$1000 award upon successful completion of the program</li></ol><h3>What is NOT provided:</h3><ol><li>The cost of an international passport.</li><li>Costs associated with the U.S. visa application and interview at the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate.</li><li>The cost of a U.S. visa.</li><li>Academic credit for participation in the Hansen Summer Institute (including fees or costs associated with academic credit)</li></ol><p><strong>Note</strong>: When you submit a name and email address for your academic referee, they will automatically receive an email with instructions to log in and answer a questionnaire to complete to verify your English proficiency. This verification will be submitted with their recommendation form.
